On the road to Muchuan, you can see many blue trucks belonging to the bamboo farmers carrying bright green bamboo trunks, a product of their hard labour which is duly rewarded by the YongFeng Pulp Mill, a factory which brings an annual revenue of nearly 2 billion CNY for Muchuan which has created a source of wealth and is a great prospect to the bamboo farmers.

YongFeng Pulp Mill, founded in 2006, was invested by C&D and YongFeng Group. The team at C&D has made pioneering efforts in the exploration into Muchuan, resulting into fruitful discussions that led to various investments and factory construction. Nowadays, YongFeng Pulp Mill produces 200,000 tons of high-grade bamboo pulp boards every year and creates 5,000 job opportunities for Muchuan.

Muchuan which previously was a desolate mountain range has been transformed by the presence of the YongFeng Pulp Mill transforming it into a bustling economic paper hub. Muchuan has made tangible changes: the forest coverage rate has increased rapidly from 13.8% to 77.3%, while the total area of bamboo forest has increased from 3,295 acres to 148,263 acres, an industry of over 4 billion CNY is created in Muchuan followed by a large improvement of the local economy.

Just over a decade

Muchuan has realized its economy take-off. Local people cannot hide their proud anymore. For the bamboo farmers, 666 square meters of bamboo forest can produce 1 ton of bamboos, which provides an adequate and sufficient source of wealth.

During the first few years, the profit of YongFeng Pulp Mill was far less than those generated by investments in other fields. However, YongFeng Pulp Mill made a one-time investment of 150,000,000 CNY for environmental protection; with a capacity exceeding 2 billion CNY, a huge part was used in equipment upgrade while locating the office in a simple rented building. After a long experience, the factory's development direction is now more and more clear, that is, replacing wood with bamboo, adhering to environmental protection in the entire production chain, and promoting the industry with bamboos.

Today, C&D has not broken its promise: the capacity of YongFeng Pulp Mill has been ranking the first in the bamboo pulp industry for last 10 years in a row with a pollution rate less than the total of its peer factories. The alkali self-sufficiency rate is 100%, the water recycle rate is 85%, the recycling rate of waste residue is 60%, and the energy consumption per unit product is less than 1/2 of the national standard.

At the first sight, it is hard to be identified as a pulp mill; chimneys vapor is white and odorless; 85% of non-used water reenters the production cycle after being strictly processed by our sedimentation tanks; the brooks near the factory are still clean enough and often used by the locals for fishing.
